MUJI Cafe & Meal

Hi folks!!! Holy smokes the last post was in July LOL. MIA for 4mths hahaha #whatsnew. This post was long overdue man like by 1-2 months hahaah plus I procrastinated so much to type this lol so lazy.

So on 2 Oct, I met up with Ki to go Plaza Sing during the recess week I think (if I remember correctly hmm). Been wanting to try out Muji's food for a while now since they opened (it looks pretty good on insta!)

{feeling a bit conscious to post pics now that I'm in an art school LOL my photog skills man. Will try to improve lmao ok moving on}

So basically Plaza Sing's Muji is supposedly the biggest branch and has a Cafe of its own. The Cafe exist at 2 other locations as well, namely Paragon and Raffles City. It sells Jap-inspired-mains including atas-caifan (aka mixed rice aka various side dishes + rice), desserts and drinks like coffee!!

I actually wanted to patronise this cafe specifically for the "caifan". So what exactly is this atas caifan? (screenshots from Muji website https://cafemeal.muji.com/sg/menu/ )

MENU

So basically you can pick 3-4 cold and/or hot side dishes (which in this case is called deli) along with white rice or top-up $1 for 16-pearl rice OR go for the set meals:

  1. JAPANESE SET
a bowl of rice + onsen egg + miso soup + minced chicken + 1 cold deli
  2. WESTERN SET
bread + Hijiki (a kind of black seaweed? mixed with some brown toppings) + mushroom bisque (mushroom soup la) + minced chicken + 1 cold deli
It's very caifan style in the sense that when you reach the counter upon ordering, you'll tell the staff what kind of mains you want and select the deli from the trays of deli on the counter. Moving down, they'll scoop out and weigh your rice/grab your bread i guess along with your other sides before you make payment at the cashier.

MAINS

I got the Jap-styled 3 deli set ($9.80) while Ki got the 3 deli meal ($12.90).

For my cold deli, I chose the Smoked Salmon & Fennel Salad and I also opted for the 16-pearl rice. (Can't exactly remember how they all tasted like anymore cuz heck it's 2mths back but) I think the salad dressing was really nice like it was tangy and appetising, the salmon tasted pretty fresh too! πŸ‘…πŸ‘… The minced chicken tasted very homely HAHAHHA like I used to eat such minced meat (forgot if it was pork/chicken) in salty black sauce. Goes very well with rice nomzz. The onsen egg was cold and submerged in some soup/diluted sauce?? The miso soup is nothing to shout about.
Overall, the whole meal tasted very healthy and refreshing to me and yumzzz although really on the pricey side lmao.

Ki picked Prawn Couscous Salad with Yuzu-Sesame dressing and Thick Omelette with Japanese-style Mushroom for her colds and Saba Fish with Japanese Yuzu Soy Sauce for her hot along with white rice. She did let me try some of hers but I really can't remember the taste lol. She agreed that everything tasted really refreshing and flavourful yet not jelat. wew hehe

Ohya forgot to mention this but cutlery are self-serviced at the small counter beside the cashier.

DESSERTS

Whilst queuing up to pay for our mains, we got really tempted by their desserts like dayum the way to a girl's heart is dessert man (ok la maybe just me lol). A bit conflicted over what to get (to share cuz wallet not fat enough) but eventually settled on the Streusel Choux Puff with Matcha Cream ($6.90$6.51) along with drinks of Iced Matcha Latte for Ki ($5.90$5.57) and Iced Cafe Au Lait ($4.90$4.62). (discounted by $1 cuz of the dessert set)

Erm. Guise. Don't get them lol.

The puff was very thick and doughy, while the matcha cream itself doesn't have a pronounced matcha taste. The azuki beans (red beans) didn't contribute much either. It was very disappointing la sobs. Would really love to try out their other desserts though like the berry ones (citrusy desserts are my go-to hehe πŸ‘…πŸ‘…) or even the Roasted Tea Pudding (looked really interesting and seemingly authentic) 😍😍

The drinks were pretty meh as well. The iced coffee was EXTREMELY diluted lol. The matcha was slightly better but equally disappointing. Ki didn't particularly enjoyed it as the powdery texture got jelat after a while.

Both of us agreed that we would definitely be back to eat their deli mains (once in a while) but maybe give their other desserts and drinks another chance (or I'll just bring my own bottle la hor lol)

Ambiance

We sat at the back of the cafe
It was relatively quiet and cosy cuz of the wooden and brown earthy tones of the cafe I guess but it did get pretty chilly after some time.

I would say it's definitely worth a go to try plus you can just shop around the shop. Muji items are awesomeee (but expensiveeeee but still kewll). Okk shall end this post now, byeee. πŸ‘‹πŸ‘‹
