So, we agreed to meet at JE at 1230pm and this girl overestimated her journey time and reached there like 20mins earlier LOL talk about excitement #jk We headed down to Jem 's basement to eat Paik's Bibim for lunch!! It supposedly sells pretty good bibimbaps although theirs are not the hotstone versions. Besides their bibimbaps which are served in relatively generous portions in damn big bowls (for easy mixing I suppose), their other mains include 2 types of noodles and Cupbap (ie a smaller version of its big bibim-brothers), as well as side dishes like Japchae (ie stir-fried korean glass noodles), Tteobukki (ie spicy korean rice cakes), korean steamed egg and fried chicken coated in your choice of either one of the sauces. The fast-food restaurant itself is a relatively small space in my opinion and serves up food relatively quickly!
The previous time Ki went with her friend to eat, she ordered their Bulgogi Beef Bibimbap and tried a bit of her friend's Warm Noodles with Soy Sauce, in which she claimed that both are damn delicious la! So she was very conflicted over what to order yesterday HAHAHAH while I've already decided on what I wanted.
So, her final decision was to try the Spicy Bibim Noodles while I ordered the Teriyaki Chicken Cupbap and Steamed Eggs. We also ordered the Fried Chicken in Sweet/Spicy Sauce.
The soup was meh, bland so I didn't really like it but the kimchi was a different story!! It has a good crunch and has a good level of spiciness and sourness. The only gripe I have is, WHY THE SERVING SO SMOLL SOBBLES. Can refill not HAHAAH
Omg their bibimbaps really very nice lor?!?! The Cupbap has small cubed chicken pieces, crunchy bits, shredded lettuce, carrots, seaweed flakes and mayo. Yes, there's mayo, weird but it works!!! I added 2 huge dollops of Gochujang to it and mixed (well, it's pretty damn hard to mix the rice, ingredients and sauce together in the smoll cup lmao, but the end product was worth it) The mayo lends a creaminess to the spicy mixed rice and you just can't stop eating hhaaha. I love when my rice is mixed together with ingredients (like fried rice) and slightly wet in gravy/sauce/soup omg glorious. The crunchy bits and veges added a nice contrast in texture to the softness of sauced rice. I found the chicken pieces slightly dry/tough though :/ But it's okay, it's still amazing overall. But I do find it slightly ex for the portion. Well but since I couldn't finish their normal bibimbap bowls, their smaller serving Cupbap was more suitable for me plus I got to try more from their menu too!
These are pretty damn good fried chicken pieces?!?! The taste of the fried chicken it self reminds me of Japanese Karaage, the batter is really crispy! I found the sauce leaning more towards the sweet and not that much of spicy? I think that the fried chicken are coated in honey for the sweetness due to the stickiness texture! Oh, they're topped with some almond flakes too! It's a rather small cup for the price though haha.
This is actually quite nice and soothing!! It's more plain-tasting at first mouth but it grew on us. The simplicity of this allowed us to taste the natural eggy taste and the sesame oil fragance that I believed they added in. There are little carrot bits and spring onions in it too. The hotness of the egg is very soothing hahah especially on rainy days!! Its texture resembles more of the Chinese styled steamed eggs as it's much firmer as compared to the soft and smooth Chawanmushi (Japanese styled steamed eggs)
The entire meal was around $10.90 for each person. Slightly pricey but it's good AND VERY FILLING!! Would wanna try their Japchae next time as it looked really tempting as well as their other bibimbaps selections when I get to share them with someone hehe! I'll be back!
We went to walk around Jem and Westgate which we visited Miniso and Tokyu Hands respectively. Miniso has such cute soft toys ohmy hahaha and we bought stickers from there since it was 2 for $3!
The carousel one reminded us of the one we bought from The Paper Stone previously but a less glam looking one hahah #ripoff
Tokyu Hands look so cool!! Ki was introducing to some of the brush pens she used since I starting to have some interest in letter-writing hahah so we ended up buying a brush pen each for $2.10 (will show in the photo further down the post) It was one of the cheaper ones and should be good to practice lettering with it as a start. Damn my lettering cmi haahah need more practice!
We were supposed to leave at 2pm to head to somewhere else but overshot by a lil hahah wished we could spend more time browsing through the shop though!! We headed off to City Hall afterwards to visit Kikki.K at Raffles City as I wanted to use the $10 welcome voucher for signing up as a member which is ending on 23!! So must faster use la, if not waste sia! HAHAH
Walked around the shop to look for something worth to buy that is not too ex also hahaha. Was trying to decide between gold alphabet stickers ($8.90) or the metal polkadot rollerball pen ($19.90) Ki was trying her hardest to advice me on getting the stickers which will last me longer plus I won't need to pay extra. But hor, using $10 to buy stickers really not worth it leh to me HAHAH so I ended up getting the pen instead 'cause it's s pretty!!!! Plus to me I think more worth la HAHHHA (50% off kinda, #selfcomforts)
